After coming up short in her quest to win a championship in college and the WNBA, Kelsey Griffin of Eagle River is closing in on her prize in the Hungarian League.

The 6-foot-2 starting forward and her top-ranked professional women’s team MiZo Pecs moved into the Finals against the second-ranked team MKB Euroleasing. Game 1 is Saturday.

Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, delivered 11 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists in the victory that punched her team’s ticket to the Finals.

She is averaging 14.4 points and 5.6 rebounds in 21 domestic games.

A former University of Nebraska All-American and current member of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, Griffin is now playing in the prestigious Euroleague, joining other Alaska players Jessica Moore, Doron Perkins, Brad Oleson and Trajan Langdon.

In the Hungarian League Finals, Pecs will face a MKB Euroleasing team that it split with during the regular season. In those two games, Griffin averaged just 8.5 points and 6 boards.
