University of Washington sophomore Michael Miller Jr. of Anchorage last night delivered the signature moment of his budding college track and field career.

The Alaska runner used a strong kick to win the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Washington-Washington State dual meet, upsetting WSU’s Andrew Gonzales along the way.

Miller, of ACS fame, won with a 12-second personal-best time of 8:57.32, which moved him up to 14th in the West Region and assures a trip to the NCAA prelims with hopes of punching his ticket to the national championships.

He was also eighth in the 3,000-meter run in 8:34.30.
