As one of the few Alaska gymnasts to compete on the NCAA Division I level, Shannon Coughlin of Anchorage had a lot of responsibility in representing an entire state.

But it didn’t faze her a bit.

Coughlin, of AGC fame, shined on the mat at Southern Utah University, where she became the team’s top performer on the floor in her final year with six victories. She ranked second in the Western Athletic Conference with an average score of 9.806.

In all, she earned All-WAC honors on the floor, beam and vault during her career.

Yet her greatest accomplishment came away from the mat.

Coughlin earned academic all-conference honors three times and recently graduated with honors as a graphics design major thanks to a sparkling 3.72 GPA.
