Good news, bad news for Griffin (Basketball)

The good news for Eagle River’s Kelsey Griffin is that her Connecticut Sun are on a season-high four-game winning streak.

The bad news is that she’s barely played.

Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, has averaged only 7.8 minutes per game during that stretch.

The No. 3 overall pick in last year’s WNBA Draft, the 6-foot-2 small forward has struggled in her second season with the team.

She is averaging just 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 15 games. Even worse, those numbers have taken a hit in July as she has collected a total of 16 points and 18 rebounds in seven games this month.

Primarily a defensive specialist, Griffin’s job isn’t necessarily to score. But she can’t defend anybody from the bench either.
