Eagle River’s Kelsey Griffin doesn’t start for the Connecticut Sun, but she seems to be one of the more influential players on the team.

Connecticut is 5-1 this season when the former Big 12 Player of the Year scores six points or more. A defensive specialist, she averages only 4.2 per game.

But a funny thing happened last night.

Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, bagged a season-high 12 points but the Sun lost 90-67 to Minnesota.

The 6-foot-2, second-year WNBA forward made a season-high four field goals and matched her season high of four free throws in 24 minutes.

She added five rebounds, a steal and an assist.
