Hutchison earns spot on U.S. team (Wrestling)

It didn’t come easy, but Soldotna’s Michaela Hutchison has earned a spot on the U.S. team preparing for the World Team Trails.
The Oklahoma City University star finished third in the 130-pound weight class and was picked up as a practice partner after the non-Olympic weights phase of the World Team Trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
Hutchison, of Skyview High fame, fought her way back through the loser’s bracket after dropping a decision in the first round to Leigh Jaynes of the New York Athletic Club.
She won her next four matches, highlighted by a second-round pin of Trinity Plessinger in the third-place match.
Hutchison won the first period 3-2 but trailed 6-0 in the second period before turning the tables.
In her three seasons at Oklahoma City University, the amazing Alaskan has won 104 of 117 career matches with 48 pins and two Women’s College Wrestling Association national championships.
