Bookert still considering options (Basketball)
Alaska’s top prep basketball player hasn’t decided on his college plans, but it’s not like Devon Bookert of Anchorage doesn’t have options.
In fact, he’s a hot commodity.
The 6-foot-2 all-state guard has impressed college coaches at a couple summer showcase national tournaments and is being recruited by several schools coast to coast.
“I visited San Diego State, California-Berkeley, Florida State,” he told me. “I have offers from them and USC, Oregon and Oregon State.”
Bookert, of West High fame, averaged 26 points and bagged a season high of 38. He was nearly unstoppable at the ASAA Class 4A state tournament when he pumped in 30 points per game in leading the Eagles to the championship game.
He’s got his choice of schools but wants to make the right decision, so he’s taking his time.
“Good situation where I fit in and where good people are,” he said of factors that will go into his decision.
“I’m probably going to prep school just to be ready when I get there. Not sure yet, though.”
