Newby bags 15th career win (Baseball)
Soldotna’s Joe Newby collected a milestone victory last night in Triple-A, picking up his 15th career victory since turning pro in 2005.
A relief pitcher for the Albuquerque Isotopes, Newby threw the seventh and eighth innings in a 6-4 win over New Orleans. He gave up a run and struck out four.
Newby improved to 2-5 in 18 appearances on the season. His ERA is 5.12, which ballooned recently after he coughed up seven runs over four innings as a spot starter.
For his pro career, the 6-foot-2 righty has a 15-15 record in 115 games.
He is the property of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Perhaps his best season came in 2006 with Kansas City when he went 5-0 with a 3.22 ERA in 32 appearances. He also had 53 Ks in 50 IPs.
Then again he did flash a 2.38 ERA in 34 games in 2009, including a stint with the Triple-A Tacoma.
