Alaska’s Kelly Cobb did something tonight it takes some players an entire season to do.

Actually she did something no other Duke University freshman has ever done.

She posted a record seven-point night – that’s right, the fabulous forward bagged 2 goals and 3 assists to help No. 6 Duke stomp Texas A&M 7-2 in the first round of the Duke Nike Classic in Durham.

Cobb, of Chugiak High fame, did most of her damage in the second half, although she did score early in the first half as Duke built a 2-0 cushion only to see Texas A&M rally for the tie with a pair of late goals in the first half.

The second half belonged to Cobb.

She assisted on the first two goals of the half to make it 4-2. Then she scored an unassisted goal to make it 5-2. Her third assist of the night made it 6-2.

“Kelly is good,” Duke coach Robbie Church told the school’s website. “She really started off strong, ran at them and made them drop. They played a high line early and she got around them a couple of times and made them drop their line a little bit so we could play underneath.”

Cobb has amassed five goals and three points for 13 points in just seven games.

Her three assists tied a freshman school record and her seven points set a new mark.
