Butcher to be honored Sunday (Soccer)
It’s hard to believe that it’s already been four years, but Anchorage’s Carly Butcher is about to play her final home game for the University of Southern California women’s soccer team Sunday.
Butcher, of South High fame, will be among a group of players honored on Senior Day in the team’s home finale against Pac-12 rival Arizona.
It’ll be the 80th career appearance for Butcher in a USC uniform, an awesome accomplishment for a player from The Last Frontier.
Butcher was an All-American midfielder in high school before becoming the first Alaska soccer player to sign with the Women of Troy. It was groundbreaking stuff.
Since then she has earned 50 career starts and compiled 7 goals and 7 assists for 21 points.
This season she is second on the team with 23 shots. And although she hasn’t scored, she has hit the post at least three times if not four.
