Cobb, Duke advance to Elite 8 (Soccer)
November 20, 2011
The third-ranked Duke University women’s soccer team trailed Ohio State 1-0 after 50 minutes despite multiple opportunities.
Then just like that – Kelly Cobb struck.
The freshman out of Chugiak High delivered the equalizing goal after she pounced on a loose ball and fired a shot past the goalkeeper to tie the game in an eventual 2-1 victory that propelled the Blue Devils in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Cobb’s goal came in the 54th minute following a free kick in which the rebound ended up at her feet. A little lucky, but the finish was pure skill.
The goal was her 11th of the season, which is a new single-season freshman school record. She also extended her freshman school record for points to 30.
