Lane is team’s No. 1 at regionals (Running)
He didn’t do as well as he wanted, but Jani Lane of Anchorage was the top finisher for the Michigan Tech University men’s cross country team at the NCAA D2 Midwest Regional Championships today in Big Rapids, Mich.
The freshman crossed the line 84th out of 151 runners with a 10K time of 34:38
“The race could have gone better, but my season hasn’t been the best,” Lane told me. “I was injured for a bit, which meant I couldn’t put as many miles in as I wanted. So I would’ve liked to be in a little better shape for my first 10K, but it was more of a learning experience.”
The Michigan Tech men’s team is comprised of mostly freshman, so he downplayed his accomplishment.
“It’s a little deceptive,” he said.
Lane, of Service High fame, is being modest. He is a good enough athlete to compete for Michigan Tech in three sports.
“I’m looking forward to skiing and especially track,” he said. “I’ve finally gotten the time management thing down so I’m excited to get some real training in.”
