Fairbanks wrestler Dustin Baxter of St. John’s University lived up to his reputation as one of the toughest light heavyweights in the country.

The 197-pounder won the Citrus Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with Friday’s 3-1 decision over Carl Broghammer of Upper Iowa in the finals.

Baxter, a two-time All-American out of West Valley, is ranked No. 2 nationally and improved to 13-0 on the mat this season.

He went 5-0 in the two-day tournament, starting with consecutive victories by 17-2 tech fall, first-period pin and medical default.

In the semifinals, he pulled out a tough 3-2 win over Alex Coolidge of Luther College.
