He’s been one of the best relievers for his Double-A team, so it only made sense that Corey Madden of Anchorage earned a promotion.

The 28-year-old pitcher has been called up to Triple-A New Orleans, leaving him one step shy of the big leagues with the Miami Marlins.

Madden, of East High fame, has allowed just two earned runs over his last 9 innings dating back to May 26 with Double-A Jacksonville.

On the year, the right-hander was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in 12 appearances.

This is the second time Madden has been to Triple-A.

Last summer he pitched with New Orleans and went 1-2 with a 4.03 ERA in 17 appearances.

He struck out 30 batters in 20.1 innings.

Madden participated in spring training with the Marlins before going to Double-A Jacksonville.

Only two Alaskans have played in the Major Leagues, and both were pitchers – Marshall Boze of Soldotna and Chad Bentz of Juneau.
