Way, Madden minor league updates [Baseball]

Matt Way

A little hiccup early loomed large late for Alaska’s Matt Way in his fourth start of the season with the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association independent league.

The left-hander pitched six innings and took the loss in a 3-1 loss to Grand Prairie.

Way, of Sitka High fame, gave up a home run in the second inning and then suffered bad luck in the third inning, allowing two unearned runs keyed by an error by the left fielder and a wild pitch.

He fell to 1-2 with a solid 2.95 ERA.

Way has struck out 20 in 21.1 innings but allowed eight walks and 23 hits.

Corey Madden

At Double-A Jacksonville, an affiliate for the Miami Marlins, Anchorage’s Corey Madden has been throwing well coming out of the bullpen.

It wasn’t until his last outing that he his six-inning scoreless over five appearances snapped in the 11th inning of a 3-2 loss to Pensacola.

Usually a one-inning guy, Madden was asked to go longer than normal and it probably played a factor in why he suffered his first loss in nine games this season.

Madden, of East High fame, pitched 1-2-3 innings in each of the 9th and 10th innings before giving up a run in the 11th, his third inning of work.

He is 1-1 with three holds and a 3.29 ERA.
