It’s been the year of the pitcher in baseball, so it figures one of Alaska’s best would get into the act as well.

Sitka southpaw Matt Way delivered arguably the greatest performance of his professional career, tossing a 1-hitter for the Laredo Lemurs in a 4-0 win over El Paso in independent league action tonight.

“It was a great game,” he told me. “Whenever you have your good stuff like that it’s always a nice ride, and you just gotta ride it out as long as you can.

“Mine lasted all 9 innings. It was fun.”

The 25-year-old former Phillies farmhand struck out 9 and walked 3 in his first complete game in six starts this summer.

He gave up a leadoff single in the top of fourth inning.

Way improved to 3-2 and lowered his ERA to 1.73.
