Alaska Sports Hall of Fame

With voting for the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2013 right around the corner, here is a batch of reader recommendations:

Recommendation: Iron Dog Race
Submitted by: Bill Fischer
Why: It is an event that has statewide participation and support. The racers train year round and the skills required to participate are vast. Endurance, navigation, mechanical aptitude are just some. It is also a big event for the towns and villages along the trail, volunteers and fans especially now that more racers are coming from the villages. This is a truly Alaskan event that needs to be recognized.

Recommendation: Iron Dog Race
Submitted by: Skippy Boomershine
Why: The Iron Dog is celebrating 30 years this year and appears to be steadily growing. Scott Davis has raced nearly every year since it started and he is tied with John Faeo for the most wins at 7. John Faeo appears to be retired but Scott continues to race competitively in this supreme test of endurance. This race and Scott Davis demonstrate the true essence of what the spirit of Alaska and Alaskan’s are all about.
