Way wins again in Atlantic League [Baseball]

A former Texas pitcher is tearing up the Atlantic League.

And his name isn’t Roger Clemens.

Alaska’s Matt Way tonight continued to baffle batters in the premier independent league, throwing a 4-hitter over eight innings as the Long Island Ducks beat Southern Maryland 3-1 in Game 2 of the Liberty Division Championship Series.

Outings like tonight are why they signed the southpaw from Sitka after a sensational season in Texas with the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association.

Way, a former fifth-round pick of the Phillies, struck out 10 to earn his third win in three starts with the Ducks.

He has allowed just one run in 21.1 innings for a 0.43 ERA.

Clemens, meanwhile, has pitched well in the Atlantic League at age 50 and has talked about coming out of retirement with the Houston Astros.

Seems to me Way deserves a looksy, too, and he’s only 25.
