Cobb nets 1st goal of year for No. 6 Duke [Soccer]
She has missed 13 of 18 games because of World Cup obligations and an injury, but Eagle River’s Kelly Cobb appears to be back to her old self with Duke University.
The fantastic forward scored her first goal of the season in yesterday’s 4-0 win over Francis Marion in Durham, N.C.
Cobb, of Chugiak High fame, found the net in the 58th minute after taking a pass and burying a shot in the upper corner. She has fired off nine shots in five games.
She has missed most of the NCAA season this fall after helping the U.S. win the U-20 World Cup title; then she dealt with an ankle injury.
Last year, Cobb earned all-ACC honors after finishing fourth in the conference with 31 points and tied for sixth in goals with 11. She also tied a school record with six game-winning goals.
Behind her heroics, Duke won 22 of 28 games and went all the way to the national championship game.
