When you’re a preseason all-league pick who leads your team in scoring, people tend to overreact to slow starts.

So when Anna Simmers of Anchorage amassed a total of just 11 points in her first two games, everybody with the Army women’s basketball team wondered, ‘What’s wrong with Anna?’

Apparently, nothing.

Simmers, of ACS fame, scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 57-52 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in Hackensack, N.J. It was her third career double-double, but her first since February of last season.

Her night was highlighted by 9-for-9 free-throw shooting, with a half dozen coming in the final minute.

“It was obviously a coming out for Simmers after two really rough games, but she’s that good,” Army coach Dave Magarity told the school’s website. “I mean, how consistent was she from the foul line? That just completely put us in the position to win the game.”
