Anchorage’s Debbiey Simmers helped Malone University do something nobody has done in NCAA D2 women’s basketball this season.
Leading No. 1-ranked Ashland at the break.
But that’s what happened thanks to Simmers, who scored 10 points and hit a pair of 3s to help Malone take a 33-32 lead Saturday, the first time No. 1-ranked Ashland had trailed at halftime.
Simmers, of ACS fame, finished with 13 points.
Ashland stormed back to win 81-57, improving to 17-0.
