Damen Bell-Holter of Hydaburg tonight etched his name alongside the greatest scorers in college basketball from Alaska.

In fact, he’s at the top of the list.

The Oral Roberts senior center scored the most points by an Alaska male against a NCAA D1 opponent – a career-high 35.

That’s more than Trajan Langdon [34], Carlos Boozer [33] and Mario Chalmers [30].

“Coach told them to keep feeding me cause I’ve been scoring lately and I wanted to be aggressive even if they were doubling me,” Bell-Holter told me. “I was unselfish most of the game and decided to attack cause they were pulling closer.”

Oral Roberts beat Southeastern Louisiana 86-72 in its Southland Conference debut. Almost lost in the shadow of his big scoring night was the fact he grabbed 14 rebounds.

The 6-foot-9 Bell-Holter ranks second in the league at 9.2 rebounds per game.

“I mean, it’s big, but I’ve been playing well and need to be consistent,” he said. “My trainer texted me right after and said ‘tonight is over, keep working, you could have rebounded better.’

“I wanna help my team win, whatever I gotta do.”

As if the night couldn’t get better, Bell-Holter also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career and now ranks No. 39 on the all-time list at Oral Roberts with 1,013.

He is averaging 12.9 points on the season.
