Dampier on pace to erase 800 record [Track]
Wasilla’s Morgan Dampier of Sacramento State opened the 2013 outdoor track season with a second-place finish yesterday at the Cal-Nevada Championships in La Jolla, Calif.
The fab freshman clocked a time of 2:11.60 in the women’s finals of the 800 meters, her specialty event.
Dampier made history in Alaska by becoming the first female to win three consecutive 800 state titles.
Now she’s threatening to rewrite the record book at Sacramento State.
Dampier, of Wasilla High fame, was the Big Sky runner-up in the 800 by virtue of her second-place finish at the conference indoor championships last month. Sacramento State won the team title.
She also turned into the school’s third-fastest women’s 800 indoor time of 2:09.78 at the Meyo Invitational in February.
