Alailefaleula provides Sterling with pop [Softball]
In desperate need of a home run hitter, the Sterling College softball team turned to Yolanda Alailefaleula of Anchorage.
The newcomer hasn’t come up short.
The junior transfer has slugged five homers and driven in 29 RBIs in 24 games for the NAIA school in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Alailefaleula, of Bartlett High fame, is near the league leaders with a .386 batting average and .728 slugging percentage.
The catcher has added a much-needed power component to the Sterling College lineup, hitting five HRs in 70 at-bats compared to last year’s team that combined to hit just 10 in 1,564 at-bats.
Ten days ago, Alailefaleula was named KCAC Player of the Week for March 18-24.
She went 5 for 6 in a two-game series against Southwestern Christian (Okla.) with two HRs, seven RBIs and a 2.167 slugging percentage.
