Kirk PRs, sets record at Mondo Challenge [Track]
Montana State runner Jacob Kirk of Anchorage ran the race of his life on back-to-back days at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge in Sacramento, Calif.
The junior set PRs in the 3,000 steeplechase and 1,500.
Kirk, of Grace Christian fame, today ran a lifetime best 8:50.6 in winning the steeplechase. It was the fourth-fastest time in Montana State history and the fastest in the history of Hornet Stadium on the Sacramento State campus.
A day earlier, he placed second in the 1,500 in 3:50.14.
Kirk was among a handful of Alaska athletes at the Mondo meet.
In the women’s 800, Sacramento State freshman Morgan Dampier of Wasilla was sixth in 2:10.93 and Montana State junior Lierin Flanagan of Kenai was seventh in 2:11.38.
Anchorage’s Aaron Fletcher of BYU competed in the steeplechase but did not finish.
