Cody McKenzie

Cordova’s Cody McKenzie outlasted Leonard Garcia for a unanimous decision at UFC 159 in Newark, N.J., earning his first UFC win in 11 months.

That wasn’t the biggest story, though.

Dude didn’t win by guillotine choke.

The submission expert dominated Garcia with takedowns and superior wrestling skills during a 29-28, 30-27, 30-27 victory.

The featherweight bout was part of the preliminary card for tonight’s Jones-Sonnen main event.

McKenzie looked to be close to winning by submission in the first round, going for choke holds, but Garcia escaped danger.

The 6-foot-1, 145-pound Alaska fighter owned the momentum and landed more strikes, deserving the win.

It was McKenzie’s 14th professional victory, improving to 2-3 in UFC bouts.
