Way gets Ducks off the schnide [Baseball]
He threw the last time the Long Island Ducks won, so it made sense Matt Way of Sitka would be the pitcher to win the first game of 2013.
He probably didn’t think it would his second start, though.
The southpaw tossed seven shutout innings in a 6-0 win over Lancaster, snapping the Ducks’ six-game losing streak to open the season.
Way, of Sitka High fame, improved to 3-0 in six career games with Long Island, the defending Atlantic League champions.
On this night he allowed just four hits while striking out five. He didn’t walk anybody, a far cry from his first start when he issued six walks in just two innings.
Way is 15-8 in his last 30 professional starts.
He started the season at spring training with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who purchased his rights during the offseason.
