Soldotna’s Paige Blackburn proved she’s still got it in the discus.

The former Air Force Academy standout who won the Mountain West Conference title a year ago competed this week at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

She competed in both the javelin and shot put.

Blackburn, of Soldotna High fame, finished seventh in the javelin with a career-best toss of 173 feet, 9 inches. The Academy graduate, who is currently studying at the University of Florida, recorded her best toss on her opening attempt.

She also competed in the discus but fouled on all three attempts.

Last year, Blackburn won the Mountain West title with a then-PR of 170-5, ranking No. 2 on the school’s all-time list.
