Back from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for several weeks, Matt Way of Sitka looked like his old self during last night’s start in the Atlantic League.

The Long Island Ducks starter pitched well over five innings, allowing just six hits and one run in an 11-5 victory. He also had five strikeouts en route to picking up his first win since June 24.

Way, of Sitka High fame, improved his record to 4-5 while lowering his ERA to 4.26 in 14 starts.

It was a much better performance last his last start against Lancaster, when he was chased in the fourth inning in a 6-4 loss.

The Long Island Ducks need their southpaw to be strong down the stretch if they want to repeat as Atlantic League championship. As of today, they trail the league-leading Southern Maryland Blue Crabs by a half-game in the Liberty Division.

Way has won eight of 18 starts with the Ducks and has a 29-21 career record with a 3.55 ERA in 66 professional starts.
