Carver climbs Seattle Pacific scoring list [Soccer]

They can’t all be pretty, but they all count, and this goal helped Soldotna’s Blaine Carver moved into seventh place on the Seattle Pacific University all-time scoring list.

The senior striker scored his 19th career goal in a 1-1 draw with Northwest Nazarene in NCAA D2 action in Seattle. It came in the 11th minute when he fired his own rebound off a defender.

“It wasn’t a pretty goal,” Carver told the school’s website. “It was a hard-working goal. I was able to split a couple defenders on the right side of the box. I actually tried to cut it back across, the defender slid and I think it hit his body and came right back to me.”

Carver intended for the ball to go to a teammate but it ricocheted off a defender and went in.

It was the first goal of the season for Carver, who led SPU with eight goals last year.

“As a goal scorer it’s always frustrating to go a couple of games without one,” he said. “I’m hoping this gets me back on track for more to come in the future.”
