Lewis earns 40th career singles win [Tennis]

Anchorage’s Emma Lewis of Bowdoin College accomplished a major milestone over the weekend at the Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia.

The senior tennis player picked up her 40th career singles victory with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Minami Okaijima of Temple.

Lewis, of South High fame, is now 40-25 in her college career.

Bowdoin was the

only D3 team in the tournament that featured D1 schools Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Princeton, Cornell, Columbia, Rhode Island and St. Johns.

Lewis beat Mel Reyes of Drexel 6-0, 6-0 in the first round before losing to No. 1 seed and eventual winner Olga Bredikhina of Maryland 6-3, 6-3.

In the consolation bracket, she prevailed in straight sets over over Kimberly Milla of Delaware and Okaijima.
