SWAC player of the week goes to Lewis [Soccer]
Anchorage’s Aaliyah Lewis of Alabama State has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after a four-goal outburst.
The freshman forward netted her first college hat trick in a 7-1 win over South Carolina-Beaufort, scoring goals in the third, 47th and 59th minute.
Lewis, of Dimond High fame, started the week with a goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Jacksonville State.
She was a two-time Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013. And now she leads the SWAC in goals [6], points [15] and shots [31] in 10 games this season, just a few months removed from the Cook Inlet Conference.
“She is doing the things we expected her to do, this is why we brought her here.” Alabama State coach Jodie Smith told the school’s website. “She is getting good looks and we’re feeding her the ball which she is making teams pay for.”
She’s making the defense see double.
Her twin sister Ariela leads the conference in assists [4] and ranks second in points [10].
