Bell-Holter released by Celtics [Basketball]
The Boston Celtics have released Damen Bell-Holter of Hydaburg from their training camp roster, but his NBA dream is still alive as the team offered him a spot with their minor league team.
The 6-foot-9, 245-pound undrafted rookie out of Oral Roberts University might play for the team’s D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. He could get called up. It happens all the time all over the league.
Then again, he might go overseas, where the money in Europe is good.
Right now he just doesn’t know.
“They want me to do the D-League but I’m not sure yet,” he told me. “I’m gonna talk to my agent and weigh our options.”
Bell-Holter, of Ketchikan High fame, played in three preseason games with the Celtics, logging minutes against Minnesota, New York and Philadelphia.
He grew up a Celtics fan and wanted nothing more than to be on the opening day roster. Then he got the news about being released after last night’s game against Brooklyn.
“I’m bummed, but I wouldn’t have been there if I didn’t belong,” Bell-Holter said. “I’m gonna keep working every day no matter where I go and keep my dream alive.”
