Nielson playing strong for Gonzaga [Volleyball]

October 17, 2013

There’s something about facing the Portland volleyball team for Gonzaga setter Deanna Nielson of Anchorage.

The 6-foot setter slammed six kills in a five-set win to continue a winning streak –her third-highest point total of the season. She had a career-high 10 kills vs. Portland last season.

Nielson, of Dimond High fame, has 51 kills in 61 sets. Last year she got to 51 kills in 95 sets.

October has been good to the former Alaska star. Earlier this month she delivered nine kills and a career-high .471 attack percentage in a five-set win over San Francisco.

Nielson leads the team with eight solo blocks on the season and is third overall with 57 total blocks.
