Griffin named WNBL Player of the Week in Australia
Another dominant performance earned Kelsey Griffin of Eagle River another award in Australia.
The 6-foot-2 professional basketball player was named WNBL Player of the Week after her 29-point, 10-rebound effort for defending champion Bendigo in an 81-54 romp of Perth.
Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, made 11-of-17 shots and also blocked two shots to lead the Spirit to their eighth straight victory.
Bendigo leads the league at 9-1 and she doesn’t think the team has played its best basketball yet.
“It’s taken us a bit of time to get our chemistry right, with everyone coming off different seasons,” Griffin told the WNBL website. “I feel like now we’re finally starting to get it again. But we still have so much room to improve.”
Griffin, the reigning Grand Final MVP, leads the league in rebounding at 8.2 per game. She grabbed a career high and club record 20 boards against Logan earlier this month.
She is also averaging 13.6 points and 1.2 blocked shots per game.
