Adam Klie BasketballEven before the season really got started, University of California San Diego head coach Eric Olen was already praising freshman guard Adam Klie of Anchorage.

“You look at him and wouldn’t think he’s a freshman,” Olen told the school’s ‘Triton Talk’ radio show. “He’s a big strong kid, and he’s confident. He’s not intimidated by the situation.”

Imagine what he’d say after Klie pumped in a season-high 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting in a 95-71 victory over St. Katherine College.

The 6-foot-4 reigning Alaska player of the year is averaging 9.3 points over his first three college games.

“He’s picked up things quickly, which has allowed him to be aggressive and play fast,” Olen said.

Klie, of Service High fame, came off the bench and needed only 13 minutes to reach double figures. The six field goals were a season high, as were his two 3-pointers.
