Ryden Hines BasketballSo apparently getting his first college start meant the world to Ryden Hines of Anchorage.

That’s because the Iona College freshman played out of his mind today against Northern Iowa, scoring 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting in a 90-78 loss in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The 6-foot-10 forward had never scored more than six points in his first seven games, all coming off the bench.

This was his first time starting and he didn’t waste the opportunity, pumping in 15 points in the first half to help Iona stay within 49-47.

Foul trouble plagued him in the second half and playing time and production fell off as a result.

Hines, of Dimond High fame, raised his scoring average to 4.5 points per game.

He is averaging only 9.4 minutes.

If anything, he needs to shoot more. Hines has made 14-of-19 field goals this season, including 5-of-9 3s.
