Pick 6: Bowman returns interception for third career NFL TD

December 15, 2013

Zack Bowman FootballFor most defensive players, scoring a touchdown in the NFL is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

But Zack Bowman of Anchorage is making a habit of it.

The 29-year-old cornerback with the Chicago Bears returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown in a 38-31 win over the Cleveland Browns, his third career score.

“When we score on defense, we win games,” Bowman told reporters.

His other two touchdowns came on recovered fumbles. The first one came in 2008 against Minnesota when he recovered a muffed punt in the end zone. The second came in 2012 against Arizona when he pounced on a fumble at the 1-yard line and scored.

Bowman, of Bartlett High fame, is tied for second with former New York Jets tight end Rocky Klever of Anchorage among Alaskans in career NFL touchdowns. Former Kansas City and Seattle cornerback Reggie Tongue of Fairbanks is first with five TDs.

They are the only three Alaskans to score a NFL touchdown.

Today was the first time Bowman intercepted two passes in the same game. He now has 10 career interceptions, highlighted by his single-season high of six in 2009.
