Sherman-Newsome continues to get it done for Colgate
What a difference a year makes for Anchorage’s Damon Sherman-Newsome. Last year was spent adjusting to the D1 level. Now he’s thriving.
The 6-foot-5 junior has emerged as a top-three scoring option for Colgate University in New York, collecting double figures in seven of 11 games, highlighted by a career-high 25-point effort against Tulane.
He is averaging 12.1 points per game, doubling his 6.1 average last year in his first season with the team.
Sherman-Newsome, of Bartlett High fame, has got it done from the 3-point line. He has made at least one 3 in all 11 games – 13 consecutive dating back to last season – and he is shooting a high percentage [.404 on 21-of-52 attempts]. He shot 28 percent last year.
He sank 4-of-6 3s against Fordham and 3-of-4 against Tulane.
Two days ago, he scored 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds against Columbia.
