Griffin pulls down 19 rebounds Down Under for second time

Kelsey Griffin BasketballShe’s not the tallest or the biggest, but Kelsey Griffin of Eagle River is arguably the best rebounder in Australia’s WNBL.

The 6-foot-2 forward hauled in 19 rebounds for the league-leading Bendigo Spirit in a 71-57 win over Logan. It was tied for the second-highest total in the WNBL this season.

Griffin grabbed a league-best and career-high 20 rebounds earlier this season. She ranks fifth in the league with a 7.9 average in 19 games.

Last season she averaged 8.6 rebounds, her best year as a pro.

Griffin, of Chugiak High, has been a consistent scorer again this year for Bendigo, reaching double figures in 14 of 19 games and averaging 12.6 overall on 48 percent shooting.

In the 19-rebound game, nine came on the offensive end. She also had 14 points, three steals and a season-high five assists.

Griffin has 10 steals over her last three games and is tied for third in the league with a 1.4 average.

The former University of Nebraska All-American has led Bendigo to a 17-2 record and as the team looks to repeat as WNBL champions.
