Perkins, Besiktas still unbeaten in EuroCup Last 32 playoffs

January 27, 2014

doron_perkins_basketball_sm1Doron Perkins of Anchorage missed most of the season because of injury, but now he’s back just in time for Besiktas of Turkey.

The veteran playmaker was up to his old tricks against Cedevita of Croatia, collecting nine points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in a 71-69 victory in Group P play of the EuroCup playoffs.

The 6-foot-3 point guard may have made a greater impact on defense, helping shut down former NBA player and Duke alum Nolan Smith. He came into the game ranked fifth in scoring at 18.4, but managed only seven on 2-of-12 shooting against Perkins and Co.

Perkins, of Bartlett High fame, recently came back after missing nearly two months. He adds instant everything to this offense, an experience and proven winner that can carry a team in the postseason.

Besiktas improved to 3-0 in Group P of the EuroCup Last 32 playoffs after the first round in a two-game series. Each of the eight pools includes four teams.
