Sao Jose leans on veteran Laws more than ever in Brazil

January 28, 2014

Andre Laws BasketballAndre Laws of Anchorage apparently has discovered a fountain of youth in South America.

He’s nearly 34 years old yet he’s averaging 37 minutes per game for Sao Jose and has played 40 minutes or more in eight of 18 games, highlighted by a 55-minute marathon earlier this season.

He can still shoot, dribble and drive, but it might be his engine that allows Laws to maintain a high level of play in his tenth professional season.

Laws, of East High fame, is starting at point guard and averaging 11.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

The 6-foot-1 veteran pumped in 15 points to help sixth-ranked Sao Jose upset No. 3 Paulistano 93-92 in Brazil’s national league division.

Laws is shooting 53 percent from the field and 84 percent from the line. He has bagged season high totals of 20 points [twice], seven rebounds [twice] and eight assists.
