Deb Simmers approaching 1,500 career points in college

Debbiey Simmers Basketball Action ShotAfter playing in the shadow of her older sister in high school, Debbiey Simmers of Anchorage has created her own legacy in college.

The 5-foot-9 senior guard at Malone University is enjoying another solid season, averaging 12.6 points on shooting 44 percent in 22 games.

She pumped in 16 points tonight in an 82-62 win over Lake Erie in NCAA D2 play. She also grabbed six rebounds, nearly twice her season average.

Simmers, of ACS fame, reached double figures for the first time in four games.

She is approaching the famed 1,500-point milestone with 1,474 career points. She collected 889 in two seasons with Clark College of the NWAACC prior to transferring to Malone.
