Oleson has thunder stolen on buzzer beater in Spain
It all the makings of SportsCenter moment, with Barcelona’s Brad Oleson of North Pole converting a three-point play with eight seconds left in the championship game of the Copa del Rey to give his team that lead and seemingly the tournament title.
But Sergio Llull stole his thunder.
Llull sank a corner jumper at the buzzer to give Real Madrid a shocking 77-76 victory over Barcelona, spoiling the celebration of Oleson’s big play.
The 30-year-old Alaska guard starts for Barcelona, one of Europe’s premier pro teams that actually traded for him last season for his ability for hitting clutch shots.
Oleson, of UAF fame, was coming off a 18-point performance in his last game.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are Spanish basketball royalty, combining for 47 titles in the Copa del Rey – which translates to King’s Cup.
Oleson finished with
11 points and six rebounds. He had put Barcelona ahead 76-75 in the final moments after converting an and-1 off an offensive rebound.
