Dunbar helps Oregon win NCAA indoor track championship
Now he’s a national champion in track and field.
The University of Oregon senior star placed in two events to help the Ducks clinch the NCAA Indoor Championship tonight in Albuquerque.
Dunbar, of Kodiak High, scored key points with a fifth-place finish in the men’s 3,000 meters in 8:14.13.
The day before, in the men’s distance medley relay, Dunbar was largely responsible for the team’s second-place finish with a late surge in his 1,600-meter leg.
“That’s a huge race by Trevor,” Oregon coach Robert Johnson told the U of O website. “Trevor stayed patient and ran the last two laps smart to finish second.”
The Ducks swept the team titles, with the Oregon women winning their fifth straight title to tie LSU for the longest streak in NCAA history.
