April 26, 2014
With two more hits today, Jacki Wood of Anchorage secured her first batting title with the New Mexico Highlands University softball team.
The junior transfer is in her first season with the NCAA D2 team after coming over from West Virginia Tech, where she finished her two-year career as the school’s wins leader for pitchers.
The left-hander is also pitching for New Mexico Highlands, but she’s had a much better season at the plate.
Wood, of Dimond High fame, leads the team with a .365 average in 44 games and is ranked among the leaders in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
She hits No. 2 in the lineup and has scored 25 runs.
On the mound, Wood has a 6-16 record with a 6.25 ERA and 10 complete games.
