Byers wrestles well, turns heads at World Team Trials

Cayle Byers WrestlingHe is two years removed from his NCAA All-American days at Oklahoma State, but Cayle Byers of Chugiak still has it.

The 197-pounder today advanced to the semifinals in this weight class and finished with two wins and two losses during the World Team Trials in Wisconsin.

He opened the tournament with a pin before in just under five minutes before beating two-time world team member JD Bergmen by a 6-4 decision in the quarterfinals.

Byers then dropped a tough 6-5 decision to former NCAA champion Dustin Kilgore in the semifinals before losing a consolation match.

In 2012, Byers finished third at the NCAA Championships. He finished his college career with a remarkable record of 112-22.

He is now club coach at Oklahoma State.
