Clifford, Kelter score in women’s sevens rugby series in Amsterdam
Clifford scored the game’s first points in a 39-0 rout.
She has been with the national rugby team since 2013 after playing college basketball at Western Oregon University.
She now starts and also played with the Eagles at the Sevens World Series in China last month.
Clifford is joined on the rugby team by former Chugiak High flag football teammate Alev Kelter, a former star soccer and women’s hockey player at the University of Wisconsin.
Kelter scored her second career try against Canada. Her first score came last month in China.
The Sevens World Series is comprised of the top 12 countries in the world, most notably top-ranked teams New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Rugby is typically played with 15 players, but the sevens format is designed to showcase elite players.
Both Alaskans helped Team USA go 4-2 in the competition.
