Jani Lane RunningJani Lane of Anchorage already held the Michigan Tech record for the 1,500 meters.

Then he bettered it over the weekend.

The sophomore earned a spot in the field of the NCAA D2 Championships by running the 1,500 in 3:46.55 to break his own school record by more than five seconds.

Lane, of Service High fame, finished second in the race at the North Central College last-chance meet in Illinois.

Just last month, ran a national provisional in the 800 in 1:52.02 – the fifth-fastest time in Michigan Tech history and bested his previous personal best by a full second.

In 2013, Lane was named the Michigan Tech track team’s Rookie of the Year. Maybe MVP this year?
