Wood named all-conference for New Mexico Highlands
Jacki Wood of Anchorage was the lone bright spot for the New Mexico Highlands softball team.
The team won only 11 of 50 games, but Wood still managed to make the all-star team for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The junior transfer earned third-team honors in a vote by league coaches in her first year with the team.
Wood, of Dimond High fame, made 47 starts at pitcher, in the field or at designated hitter. She led New Mexico Highlands with a .375 batting average and six wins as a pitcher. She threw a shutout against Regis.
“I am thrilled she was recognized by getting this award,” her head coach told the school’s website. “She played many roles on the team this season. We look forward to Jacquelyn having another successful year next season.”
Wood started and ended the season with six-game hitting streaks.
